Miku Restaurant

The reopening of Miku at the waterfront was just in time for summer, perfect for patio lovers like me as it offers an excellent view of Vancouver downtown. Though we didn’t end up getting seats outside, the new space is impeccably well-furnished, owning up to the standard of the fine-dining franchise. 20130811-230352.jpg20130811-230402.jpgEbi Fritter ($14) – Delicious beer battered prawns that were light and flavourful. Must order.20130811-230409.jpgMiku Waterfront Platter ($78) – A great way to sample a wide selection of dishes that you have never tried, especially with parties of 3-4. I probably wouldn’t order this again just because there are a few components that seemed underwhelming in terms of flavour and for the price.20130811-230419.jpgAburi Saba Oshi Sushi  ($15) – Tender pieces of mouth-watering mackerel, torched, and lightly drizzled with miso sauce. Love this dish to the creamy texture of the fish.20130811-230414.jpgAburi Salmon Oshi Sushi  ($15) – Miku’s most infamous roll which consists of pressed local BC salmon, torched, drizzled with their house-special Miku sauce, and finally topped with a thin slice of jalepeno pepper. If you ever stop by here, this is the dish that you definitely want to order. I wasn’t as amazed as I was when I had it the first time, but it’s a must-order for me nonetheless. The smokiness of the rice is such a refreshing palate changer from all the other places. 20130811-230424.jpgShabu Shabu ($25) – Great cuts of NY strip but I would pass this up next time. 20130811-230429.jpgPacific Roll ($15) – Too much wasabi in each bite for my liking, but it was recommend by our server.

It was our intention to finish dinner with dessert here because they offer a great selection of treats made by their house pastry chef (the green tea opera cake is phenomenal!), but the service was unbearably slow and disoriented that night and we just weren’t willing to wait an extra hour for it to arrive. Our server apologized repeatedly for the long waits in between our plates and I understand since the restaurant hasn’t been open for long and they are still adjusting to the fast-paced work environment. Needless to say, I definitely look forward to returning, maybe next time for lunch.
