Aphrodite’s Organic Café and Pie Shop

It’s been a long time talking about venturing to Aphrodite’s, but putting those words into action just never rolled around. The opportunity struck when I found myself stranded in Vancouver for a few hours and a pumpkin-clogged brain that needed to be satisfied with nothing else but a pie.20131109-105053.jpgHarvest Vegetarian Chilli ($14) – Filling and comforting executed in a bowl. I was so happy to discover that these beans were seasoned and had a nice spiciness in each bite (paprika?). It’s a thicker chilli than normal, but it didn’t bother me as it went well with the crusty house-made bread. 20131109-105100.jpgApple and Aged-Cheddar Sandwich ($14) – Two words – man sandwich. I don’t know how this tasted because I couldn’t bring myself to try it, but if you’re intrigued by sweet and savoury combinations, this might be it for you. 20131109-105113.jpgPumpkin Pie ($7.25) – Disappointed was my initial reaction when I tried this highly-praised pie of theirs. It was pretty standard and I found it similar in taste to one bought from Costco. Of course to compare both would be unjust because the ingredient choices are completely opposites in the spectrum, but what delivered in taste was just that. Maybe if the pie was warmed up, I would have been able taste more of the flakiness of the crust, but because it was cold, it truly didn’t do much for me – just a hard, typical shell. The filling was in deed mousse-like and sweetened just right, but I didn’t have the urge to slap my dining partner, which truthfully, was what I was hoping for. 20131109-105122.jpg
